Pakistan High Commission in the Maldives on Wednesday marked Kashmir Black Day to show support for Kashmiris in their struggle for their constitutionally guaranteed right to self-determination.

A special of Kashmir Black Day took place at the Pakistan High Commission in Male' City, the capital of the Maldives. The day, according to the Pakistan High Commission, is a monument to Kashmiris' legendary bravery and tenacity in defying Indian occupation forces over the past 75 years.

Kashmir Black Day is observed on October 27 of every year. The day remembers the 1947 Indian takeover of Kashmir; Indian armed forces invaded Jammu and Kashmir and forced its Maharajah to join the newly-created India.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy High Commissioner Zulqurnain Ahmad emphasized the historical context of the Kashmir dispute and the importance of the United Nations Resolutions on Kashmir. He condemned India's unilateral repeal of Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution on August 5, 2019, alleging that India did so to remove this barrier and turn the region's Muslim majority into a minority. These provisions provided important legal protections that limited non-Kashmiris from getting jobs, buying land, and permanently settling in the disputed region.

He emphasized that the Indian government's unilateral actions were against both international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

High Commissioner Vice Admiral (R) Ather Mukhtar also spoke on the occasion and stated that all Indian attempts at coercion and control had been foiled by the innumerable sacrifices and tenacity of the people of Kashmir and Jammu. He further stated that this popular resolution is still in effect.

The international community is also urged to take concrete efforts to uphold its obligations to Kashmiris, he continued, adding that Pakistan demands that the Indian government immediately reverse its illegal and unilateral acts.

The resolution to the Kashmir conflict, according to High Commissioner Mukhtar, is included in the resolutions of the United National Security Council.

The High Commissioner also underlined Pakistan's pledge to stand for Kashmiris till their right to self-determination is realized.
