An elderly man was brutally murdered in AA. Maalhos late last night, prompting a police investigation into the fatal attack.

The police reported that they received information of the incident around 1:50 am, where the man was discovered seriously injured while sleeping in his home.

He was later identified as 65-year-old Abdulrahman Adam,  Orchidmaage, AA. Maalhos. 

The victim was taken to the Maalhos Health Centre but sadly passed away early this morning due to his injuries.

Police have since launched an investigation and confirmed that a team has departed from Malé to Maalhos to further probe the case.

Officers have also begun monitoring the movement of people entering and leaving the island.

A source from the island told Voice that the victim lived with his wife in the same house.

The wife, who was asleep in a separate room, reportedly woke up to the sound of an intruder.

Upon checking, she saw her husband was attacked and immediately alerted authorities.
