Performance based salaries can be an important milestone in improving health care services: Maldives Doctors Union

In Joint Committee of Committee on National Development and Heritage And Committee on Social Affairs meeting held in the parliament, Vice President of Maldives Doctors Union, Dr. Mohamed Wisham has stated that progressive government has contributed to increase in the quality of services in the Health Sector of Maldives, and performance based salaries is a major milestone in increasing the service delivery in the Hospitals.

Dr. Wisham also highlighted the need for isolation of Healthcare personnel from Civil service due to the technicality of the services.

The Secretary General of Maldives Doctors Union Dr. Ahmed Rasheed also mentioned the difference of pay-scale in doctors and nurses doing the same work and that these discrepancies have to be addressed with the responsible organizations.

In the committee meeting the doctors acknowledged the pro-active efforts undertaken by Male’ City Group of Hospital’s CEO Mr. Ibrahim Haleem to create specialty departments, involve research and manning the departments with the current financial strain.

Dr. Ahmed Rasheed noted that these are good signs that in near they can collectively achieve good quality care for public, reducing the difficulties and dependence to travel.

The Committee meeting was attended by Maldives Teachers Association and Maldives Nurses Association.

The teams thanked the progress seen and highlighted areas to improve and the importance of increasing the quality of services to the public.
