United Kingdom has officially recognized the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree offered by the Maldives National University's (MNU) School of Medicine, marking a significant achievement for medical education in the Maldives.

The government is placing greater emphasis on ocean research and the identification of marine resources as part of efforts to diversify the Maldivian economy and strengthen long-term sustainability, according to Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam.
