Taiwan is part of China and Maldives accepts the One China policy, the government said.

The government said in a statement in connection with Taiwan's presidential election. Taiwan held the election after China said it would cause unrest.

The government said in the statement that Maldives fully supports the One China policy and the relationship between Maldives and China is based on that principle. The statement also  said that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had given that assurance to China during his first visit there.

There is only one China in the world and the People's Republic of China represents the whole of China, the government said in the statement. It also said that Taiwan is part of China's territory.
