New VIA terminal will cut down tourist wait times: Resort Representatives
The new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) is poised to resolve long-standing challenges in receiving tourists, according to several prominent resort representatives in the Maldives.
Resort representatives, who recently toured the new terminal during trial operations, have lauded the expansion for its potential to streamline arrivals and improve the overall experience for tourists and hosts alike.
Ali Naseer, Airport Manager for Soneva, which operates three luxury resorts in the Maldives noted that tourists often spend considerable time navigating the airport upon arrival.
He also highlighted the time-consuming nature of current arrival procedures for resort representatives.
He stated that the new terminal will significantly reduce the time it takes for tourists to exit the airport, it addresses the congestion and logistical difficulties we previously faced in welcoming guests..
Similarly, Larisa Jovanovic, Resort Manager at One&Only Reethi Rah, described the upcoming terminal as an opportunity to elevate the Maldives' reputation for premium hospitality.
She stated that the new terminal is designed elegantly, and that it will offer special and seamless experiences for tourists.
Nooh Abdul Haris, Airport Service Manager at Jumeirah Maldives, added that the terminal’s space has been designed for optimal functionality, ensuring smoother operations for both staff and guests.
The highly anticipated terminal is scheduled to officially open on July 26, marking the 60th anniversary of Maldives’ independence.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has been conducting comprehensive trial runs involving airlines, airport representatives, and travel agents to ensure readiness for the launch.
