This government is deliberately neglecting the fisheries industry: Former President Yameen

The Opposition Presidential Candidate President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government is deliberately neglecting fisheries industry. 

Speaking to the people during his visit Haa Alif atoll, he said that the current government has not fulfilled its promises they have made to fishermen and the fisheries industry. 

Former President Yameen said that when the government leaders visited the islands to seek people's votes in the upcoming presidential elections, they were asked about the promises they had made to the fishermen.

Former President Yameen stated that during his visit to Haa Alif Atoll he was able to fully understand the issues faced by the fishermen. He stated that even today fishermen are speaking loudly about the governments promises to convert their tickets into dollars. Former President Yameen also noted that despite these promises, the government has said that the fisheries industry will disappear from the Maldives within 15 years. 

Elaborating on that Former President Yameen noted that this show how the government is implementing their manifesto.  He further criticised the current fisheries ministry as well. 

It is impossible for someone working in the Ministry of Fisheries to determine whether an ice plant on an island has been destroyed or whether a the island has never had an ice plant installed. But this is the Fisheries Minister.

Former President also directed his comments towards the current Fisheries minister as well. He stated that current minister is an educated person in the field and has the knowledge to create policies that favor's the fisheries industry.

Former President Yameen directing his point towards the fisheries minister also stated that this shows how the government is concerned fulfilling the promises.

The incumbent government has recently come under fire from fishermen over the issue of fisheries industries decline and the recent slow grown in fishing industry.
