International Zakat Conference 2025 launches in Malé
The Second International Zakat Conference (INZEC 2025) opened today at the Islamic Center Conference Hall, focusing on the evolving role of zakat in addressing modern social and economic challenges.
A special opening ceremony was held this morning, attended by Professor Dr. Aishath Muneeza, Associate Dean of INCEIF University, Malaysia, who delivered the keynote address.
The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, joined senior officials from the Maldives Zakat House, the ministry, and leading figures from the Islamic finance sector to mark the occasion.
Organized by the Maldives Zakat House, the conference brings together scholars, policymakers, economists, and practitioners from the Maldives and abroad to advance strategies for a sustainable and inclusive zakat framework.
Keynote speaker Professor Dr. Aishath Muneeza, emphasized the significance of global collaboration in strengthening zakat systems.
She noted the progress achieved in the Maldives since the establishment of the Zakat House and acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders in developing the sector.
The 2025 conference highlights two central themes, the social dimensions of zakat and the digital transformation of zakat services, with discussions aimed at integrating technology to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility.
Delegates from Maldivian institutions and Malaysian universities, along with experts in Islamic finance and religious scholarship, are engaging in sessions designed to explore innovative solutions for zakat management as a driver of social welfare and economic resilience.
