“Chagos”rally to be held on Friday - “Plastic tax” rally is postponed
Opposition Progressive Party of Maldives has announced that a special rally called “Chagos” will be held on Friday night regarding the concerns of the locals on the changing of the state’s stand on the Chagos islands issue, prioritizing the national condition.
Prior to this, opposition had announced that a rally called “Kothalhu” will be held regarding the concerns of locals on the tax taken from plastic bags.
However, during the press conference held by the leaders of progressive congress coalition today, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the president of PNC, stated that the Chagos islands crisis is a broad issue, and that the concerns of the locals are rising, due to which “Kothalhu” function is been postponed so that “Chagos” function is prioritised.
“We had decided earlier to hold a gathering named Cortana in the artificial beach on Friday night - the function will be held. However, due to the circumstances, we are being forced to change the name of the gathering. We have recognized the number one issue in the country is the selling of Chagos Islands - we have decided that it is important that the locals get to address their concerns regarding this, which is why we are renaming the function as “Chagos” and holding it.”
Abdul Raheem Abdulla, president of PNC
Abdul Raheem stated that, even though this function is being held by ppm, it should be taken as a national movement.
Abdul Raheem has called out for as many Maldivians as possible to take part in the function and address their concerns on the decisions, made by the state regarding Chagos Islands.
