A nationwide rally will be held tomorrow evening in solidarity with the people of Gaza, as part of the "Global Sumud Flotilla" movement.

The event is organised by a special steering committee led by the International Aid Campaign (IAC), in collaboration with Maldivian civil society organisations, institutions, companies, and members of the public.

Speaking at a press conference at the Seneco Hall of the Voice of Maldives, committee representatives announced that the peaceful rally will begin at 4 p.m. on 15 August 2025 at the Maafannu Stadium.

The gathering aims to raise awareness among citizens about the latest situation in Gaza, voice support for its people, and condemn inhuman actions of the Israeli army.

The committee called on as many people as possible to join the rally in support of Gaza’s freedom.

The event will take place simultaneously across more than 50 islands in the Maldives.

The "Global Sumud Flotilla" is a coordinated effort involving 44 countries to oppose the Israeli occupation of Gaza and and a call to stop the ongoing genocide in Palestine.

Recent activities under the movement in the Maldives have included an underwater demonstration by local divers. According to IAC, further awareness and solidarity events are planned in the coming weeks.
