President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated the Maldives’ firm condemnation of the Israeli occupation government’s announcement of the so-called “Vision of Greater Israel,” rejecting its settlement and expansionist agenda in its entirety.

In a statement on his official X account, the President stressed that such declarations, laden with inflammatory rhetoric, constitute violations of international law and undermine the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

He urged urgent and unified international action to protect the rights of the Palestinian people and to end their suffering amid the worsening conflict.

The Maldives strongly condemns the statement made by the Israeli occupation government announcing the so-called ‘Vision of Greater Israel’ and firmly rejects its settlement and expansionist plans. Such statements with inflammatory rhetoric violate international law and undermine Palestinians’ rights to self-determination. We call for urgent unified international action to protect the rights of the Palestinians and bring an end to their suffering in this heightening conflict. The Maldives stands unwavering with Palestine and reiterates its commitment to all efforts aimed at achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace,

the President stated.

The term “Greater Israel” is used in Israeli politics to describe a vision of expanding its territory to encompass the occupied West Bank, besieged Gaza, Syria’s occupied Golan Heights, Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, and parts of Jordan.

Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, ongoing since October 2023, has killed more than 61,700 Palestinians, nearly half of them women and children in a large-scale genocide.
