Bangladeshi remanded as Police investigate armed assault in Malé
A 19-year-old Bangladeshi national has been remanded in custody while police investigate an alleged armed assault involving a dangerous weapon in the Malé area.
The Criminal Court issued the remand order yesterday for Siyam Bepari, who is accused of assaulting another person with a dangerous weapon, causing physical injuries and damaging property.
According to the court order, investigators presented sufficient evidence to establish reasonable grounds for the allegations against the suspect.
The material submitted to the court reportedly included intelligence information, photographs documenting injuries and statements from witnesses.
Court records state that one person sustained significant injuries during the incident.
Bepari was also injured in the incident.
The suspect was remanded under the Act on Prohibition of Gang-related Crimes and Other Serious Offenses as the investigation continues.
The Maldives Police Service has not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault or disclosed the nature of the weapon reportedly involved.
Bepari will remain in custody while authorities continue gathering evidence and investigating the case.
