Maldives has expanded its tourism accommodation capacity by more than 1,000 beds since the end of last year, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Figures as of September 5 show that the country now has 68,544 beds available across its tourism sector.

The total stood at 67,475 beds at the end of last year, reflecting an increase of 1,069 beds.

Resorts continue to account for the largest share of the country's tourism accommodation, with 45,891 beds currently in operation.

Guesthouses provide 17,268 beds, while safari vessels account for 3,481 beds and hotels offer 2,654 beds.

The latest data shows that the Maldives currently has 179 resorts, 956 guesthouses, 172 safari vessels, and 16 hotels operating across the country.

The increase in accommodation capacity comes as tourist arrivals continue to grow. According to the Ministry's latest figures, the Maldives has welcomed approximately 1.4 million visitors so far this year.

Resorts remain the preferred choice for most visitors, with around one million tourists staying at resort properties.

Guesthouses accommodated approximately 300,000 visitors, reflecting the continued growth of local island tourism.

Meanwhile, 33,513 tourists stayed in hotels, while 26,550 visitors chose safari vessels for their holidays.

The expanding bed capacity reflects continued investment and development across the Maldives' tourism industry, which remains the country's largest economic sector.

Resorts continue to dominate the market, while guesthouses have maintained a significant role in accommodating visitors seeking local island experiences.

With new tourism establishments continuing to enter the market, accommodation capacity is expected to remain an important factor in supporting the Maldives' efforts to increase visitor arrivals and diversify its tourism offerings.
