President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to formally recognize esports achievements and create new opportunities for young Maldivians competing in the fast-growing sector.

The commitment came during the fourth episode of Rayithunge Adu, the President’s public dialogue series that allows citizens to raise concerns directly with leadership.

A young esports competitor used the platform to highlight the lack of official awards and recognition for players despite strong youth participation across the country.

The player pointed out that esports remains excluded from government sports honors, leaving top performers without formal acknowledgment.

He called on the administration to elevate the sector’s status and establish clear pathways for advancement.

President Dr. Muizzu acknowledged the widespread engagement of Maldivian youth in competitive gaming and stressed the need for greater institutional support.

He confirmed that esports infrastructure development is among the government’s priorities, referencing plans announced in this year’s Presidential Address for a dedicated esports center, arcade, and children’s activities complex.

Officials are now working to assemble a team to oversee the facility’s development.

The project aligns with broader nationwide efforts to expand sports infrastructure, which the administration says will strengthen community bonds and improve mental wellbeing.

Promoting physical and mental health remains a central objective of the government’s long-term strategic plan.

The esports initiative is positioned as part of this wider vision to build a healthier, more connected nation while responding to the interests of young citizens.

The participant praised the current administration’s approach to youth engagement, noting that direct access to leadership has created new opportunities for voicing concerns and shaping policy.

As competitive gaming expands globally, the Maldives’ move signals a shift toward treating esports as a legitimate arena for athletic and professional development.
