No room for criticism, five-year term not yet concluded: Abdul Raheem
People’s National Congress (PNC) Chairperson and Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla has defended the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, arguing that criticism of the government is premature as the President has yet to complete his five-year term.
Speaking at a PNC rally, Abdul Raheem responded strongly to criticism directed at the government by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
He said the current administration came to power through the efforts and sacrifices of many people and argued that President Dr. Muizzu's election had also contributed to Yameen being able to remain at home while his legal matters continue.
If President Yameen were thinking rationally, he would be standing alongside President Muizzu to uphold this administration. It is only because President Muizzu assumed office that he is able to be at home,

Abdul Raheem also said Yameen's ongoing legal proceedings demonstrated that the current administration was not interfering with the judiciary.
He argued that the country was moving toward stronger justice, public safety, and social stability.
The streets have become safe, and the citizens are at peace. Development is not merely about constructing bridges; true development lies in building a resilient and stable human society, which is exactly what we are working towards. Five years have not passed yet, so there is no room for criticism. Moreover, the debts we are currently settling were not incurred by our administration,
he said
He said the government was managing debt accumulated under previous administrations while continuing development projects without taking additional loans.
Abdul Raheem maintained that President Dr. Muizzu was leading the country through its financial challenges while retaining the support of the ruling party and its parliamentary majority.
He also said preparations would be underway to establish President Dr. Muizzu's campaign team for the 2028 presidential election before the end of the current parliamentary term.
He also asserted that the People's Majlis cannot be divided, describing the parliament as being "firmly united like a bundle of firewood" in support of President Dr. Muizzu.
Abdul Raheem said the PNC remained committed to supporting President Muizzu and securing his re-election in 2028.
