President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a contribution of MVR 1 million to the Nepal Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, in support of humanitarian relief and recovery efforts following devastating floods and landslides in Nepal.

The contribution, made on behalf of the Maldivian people, will be deposited into Nepal’s disaster relief fund to assist ongoing efforts to respond to the widespread destruction caused by the disaster.

The government said the assistance reflects the Maldives’ longstanding commitment to regional solidarity and mutual support, particularly during times of crisis.

The floods and landslides, which struck Nepal on August 26, caused extensive damage and significant loss of life.

The Nepal-China border region was among the areas severely affected, with flash floods reportedly triggered by the collapse of glaciers, ice and debris.

Early official reports indicated that more than 500 foreign nationals from over 30 countries were among those reported missing, alongside a large number of local residents.

The Maldives’ contribution is intended to support humanitarian assistance, relief and recovery efforts as Nepal continues to respond to the aftermath of the disaster.
