In the current circumstance, primaries should not be held: President Solih

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that a primary is being held to decide who would get the party's presidential ticket should not be held at this time. 

The President made the remarks while speaking at a meeting held in Velidhoo yesterday evening to campaign for MDP's presidential primary. President Solih made different statements regarding the presidential primaries at a meeting held with MDP's supporters from Noonu Atoll Velidhoo. 

He expressed confidence that MDP would win the presidential elections and also said that he would win the election in a single round. However, he further stated that there are little things that need to be done before the election. 

However, in light of the current situation, He stated that the primaries should not be hosted. He further explained that he would win the primary by a massive margin. 

This [the presidential primary] doesn't have to be held amongst us. However, given the current situation, we are out to win this primary in a big way so that MDP wins the Presidential election.

The President did not provide any further details on how the primary election would be won.

President Solih's supporters have previously argued vehemently that if he stayed in office he would be handed the Parties Presidential Ticket for a second term without a primary. 

Members loyal to President Nasheed spoke out loudly against the remarks. They had warned President Solih would not receive the Presidential ticket without a primary ticket.
