Opposition Leader and Former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom were last months sentenced to 11 years in prison by a criminal court after he was handed over the party's presidential ticket.
With the presidential election around the corner, the opposition has been staging a series of protests in the name of 'Haram Hukum', alleging that he was sentenced under the influence of the government.
