Israeli passport ban a proud, principled stand by Maldives: President Dr. Muizzu
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has described the Maldives' recent ban on Israeli passport holders as a proud and principled act, affirming the nation's unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, President said the decision represents one of the most significant and morally grounded actions in the country’s recent history.
Our country may be small, but as a 100 percent Islamic nation, we have made our stance clear
he declared.
The ban officially came into effect on April 15, following the ratification of the third amendment to the Maldives Immigration Act.
The amendment was swiftly passed by Parliament and ratified by the President, legally barring Israeli citizens from entering the country.
President emphasized that the ban is a direct response to the grave human rights violations and acts of genocide committed by the Israeli regime against the Palestinian people.
By codifying the ban into law, the Maldives has made its opposition to Israeli aggression official and visible on the international stage.
The President said that the decision was made on behalf of all Maldivians for all Palestinians, underscoring the unity and purpose behind the move.
The Maldivian government continues to advocate for Palestine in multiple international forums which includes calling for an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and for Palestine to be granted full membership in the United Nations.
The President also clarified that the Maldives’ foreign policy remains one of neutrality and respect. He said that Maldives would maintain equal relations with all countries that respect the freedom and sovereignty of the Maldivian people,
