In a surprising turn of events, both the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the main opposition party witnessed embarrassingly low attendance at their final rally held yesterday to mark the end of the parliament election campaign.

Despite calls on social media since April 15, urging supporters to join the rally, enthusiasm was notably lacking among the public.

Leaders of the party reiterated this request through multiple posts on social media.

However, the rally, which commenced at the social center at 4 pm and concluded at the Artificial Beach, attracted fewer attendees than anticipated.

The sparse turnout at the rally highlights a significant decline in support for MDP compared to previous political events.

Notably, Male’ city, which historically favored MDP, saw particularly low participation.

This decline is notable, especially considering that MDP did not secure a majority in Male’ city during the recent presidential elections.

The lackluster attendance at MDP’s final rallies indicates a shift in political dynamics and possibly a growing disengagement among the electorate.

As parliament election is scheduled to be held tomorrow, these developments may have implications for the political landscape of the Maldives.
