Maavah murder suspect remanded in custody pending trial

The man arrested over the fatal stabbing of 29-year-old Moosa Ibrahim in L. Maavah has been ordered to remain in custody until the conclusion of his trial.

The suspect, Mohamed Ibrahim, also 29, from HDh. Nolhivaranfaru, is a known drug user and petty offender, according to police. 

The incident unfolded near Maavah’s volleyball court following a violent altercation allegedly linked to a drug dispute.

Authorities report that Moosa and his group confronted Mohamed, which escalated into a physical assault. 

During the scuffle, Mohamed used a kitchen knife to slash Moosa’s neck. 

Moosa succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack.

Following the incident, Mohamed fled the scene, disposed of the weapon in the sea, and later turned himself in to police, the weapon was later recovered with the suspect’s cooperation.

Moosa’s body was transported to Malé for forensic examination. 

Police have cordoned off several locations on the island as the investigation continues.
