President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, arrived in the Maldives today on an official state visit at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Upon his arrival at Velana International Airport, President Dissanayake and his accompanying delegation were warmly welcomed by President Dr Muizzu.

An official welcome ceremony will be held later today in his honour.

During the visit, the two leaders are expected to hold high-level discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation and strengthening the longstanding bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Following the talks, both presidents will deliver joint press statements outlining the key outcomes of their engagement.

This marks President Dissanayake’s first state visit to the Maldives since taking office in September 2024.

The visit also comes at a significant time, as this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, first formalised on 26 July 1965.
