President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized that while development is visibly accelerating across the Maldives, true and lasting progress depends on individual self-discipline, character-building, and unity rooted in national identity.

Speaking at the official Independence Day ceremony this morning at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE), marking 60 years of the nation’s independence, the President reflected on the deeper meaning of independence and the role every citizen must play in preserving it.

He highlighted that genuine progress must start from within each Maldivian through embracing the national identity, upholding the Dhivehi language and Islamic values, and honouring the sacrifices of those who secured the country’s freedom.

Without this internal commitment, he said, outward development would remain shallow.

President Dr. Muizzu stressed the importance of unity and patriotism in defending and sustaining independence.

He stated that while external support may sometimes be necessary, the most meaningful work for national advancement must come from Maldivians themselves.

He called for a collective determination to uphold the country’s legacy and ensure its future strength and sovereignty, reaffirming that the Government remains committed to fulfilling its promises with sincerity and tireless effort.
