Maldives-Sri Lanka set agenda for future cooperation during official talks

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, held official talks today at the President’s Office as part of President Dissanayake’s ongoing state visit to the Maldives.

The high-level discussions focused on further deepening the enduring ties between the two neighbouring nations, which have enjoyed six decades of diplomatic relations. 

President Dr. Muizzu underscored the close bond between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, highlighting both the long-standing friendship and the invaluable contributions of the Sri Lankan workforce to the Maldives’ economic and social development.

The talks concluded with both leaders reiterating their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors. 

Key areas of focus include capacity building and education, climate change mitigation, fisheries and agriculture, food security, maritime safety, enhanced air connectivity, youth empowerment, and the promotion of sports.

The meeting reflected the mutual intent of both governments to build on their historic relationship and pursue new avenues of collaboration for the benefit of both peoples.
