President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu shared his optimism for the outcome of former President Abdulla Yameen's appeal hearing, expressing his fervent hope for Yameen's exoneration in tomorrow's High Court session.

Speaking tonight at a spirited campaign rally for PNC Candidate Mohamed Ali in the Gahdhoo constituency, President Muizzu reiterated his unwavering stance on the importance of upholding justice and ensuring a fair legal process for all citizens.

My hope is that Yameen becomes free and comes. I have been informed that the hearing will proceed. My prayer is that he (Yameen) receives justice and is freed

emphasized President Muizzu

highlighting the significance of a transparent and impartial judicial system.

The President voiced his concerns regarding the prolonged delays in resolving Yameen's appeal case, recalling his previous advocacy for Yameen's transfer to house arrest immediately after winning last year's presidential election.

He underscored the imperative of a judiciary free from political interference, stressing the need for unbiased hearings and verdicts.

However, President Dr. Muizzu raised suspicions of political meddling within the Judicial Services Commission (JSC), citing the majority control exerted by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) over key positions.

He pointed to recent actions by MDP members in the JSC, insinuating potential manipulation of the case's scheduling.

It is evidence of that that it was just a few days ago the Speaker said he will raise this issue of former President Yameen's appeal with JSC. And just a couple of days after he said that, the case is scheduled now. So they held this back all this time, didn't they?

President Dr. Muizzu remarked

highlighting concerns over the impartiality of the judicial process.

President Dr. Muizzu reiterated his commitment to addressing political interference within the judiciary, asserting his determination to rid institutions like the JSC of external influences.

He emphasized the necessity of parliamentary support to enact legislative reforms aimed at safeguarding institutional integrity and upholding the rule of law.

In urging the public to rally behind government-aligned candidates in the upcoming election, President Dr. Muizzu reaffirmed his dedication to fostering a transparent and accountable governance system that prioritizes justice and fairness for all citizens.
