Neutral foreign policy strengthens Maldives' global partnerships: Minister Khaleel
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has reaffirmed that the Maldives’ neutral and balanced foreign policy has led to enhanced relations with both bilateral and multilateral partners.
In an exclusive interview with PSM News, Minister Khaleel underscored that the guiding principle of the current administration’s foreign policy is “Maldives First,” with a strong focus on protecting national interests and prioritizing the welfare of the Maldivian people.
He noted that this principle is firmly rooted in the Constitution.
According to the Minister, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has drawn a clear line in preserving the country’s sovereignty and independence, a stance that has been respected and welcomed by the international community.

He explained that the Maldives’ foreign policy is now based on neutrality and equality, regardless of the size or influence of other nations.
This strategic shift has directly contributed to stronger diplomatic relations and development cooperation.
Despite ongoing geopolitical competition in the region, Dr. Khaleel reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to maintaining balanced ties with both India and China.
He emphasized that both countries are vital development partners and that the government is dedicated to engaging them on equal footing.
