President Dr. Muizzu highlights Italy’s role in Maldives’ growth in Republic Day tribute
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended heartfelt greetings to the leaders and people of Italy on the occasion of their Republic Day, emphasizing the enduring democratic values that the day represents and expressing hope for further strengthening of Maldives–Italy relations.
In a message posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, President Dr. Muizzu stated:
It is a pleasure to convey greetings and good wishes to His Excellency President Sergio Mattarella, Her Excellency Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the government, and the people of Italy on their Republic Day. This day highlights the Italian people’s fight for freedom and justice, and it is heartening to see those democratic values continue to be upheld. I am also eager to see the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Italy attain new heights for the common good of the people of both countries.

In addition to the public message, President Dr.Muizzu sent separate official greetings to President Mattarella and Prime Minister Meloni.
According to President's office, in his message to President Mattarella, he conveyed best wishes on behalf of the Maldivian government and people, highlighting recent progress in bilateral cooperation in tourism, culture, and education.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to further enhancing these areas of collaboration.
In his message to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President acknowledged the long-standing partnership between the two countries, which began with the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1966.
He noted Italy’s pivotal role in the development of the Maldives’ tourism industry and expressed appreciation for Italy’s continued position among the top five tourist source markets for the Maldives over the past three years.
President concluded by extending personal best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the Italian people, while reaffirming his intent to deepen cooperation between the two nations in the years ahead.
