In a landmark development, President Muizzu announced last night that all Indian troops stationed in the country will be fully withdrawn by May 10, following the signing of crucial agreement between the two nations.

This decision comes after extensive discussions and diplomatic negotiationsß between the governments of Maldives and India.

During his visit to Addu, President Muizzu addressed the citizens, providing details of the withdrawal plan.

He assured the public that the process would commence on March 10, with the initial withdrawal of one team of Indian troops, culminating in the complete evacuation by May 10.

The President emphasized that this decision was reached through diplomatic channels, respecting the democratic choices made by the Maldivian people.

Before May 10, all Indian citizens in the Maldives will be withdrawn. That is a sure thing with Allah's blessing. Agreements have been signed

President Muizzu affirmed, expressing confidence in the success of the diplomatic measures taken

The announcement follows a series of discussions between both countries.

Initially, Maldives had requested the withdrawal of Indian troops by March 17.

However, after two rounds of negotiations, a consensus was reached to complete the withdrawal in two phases, with the final date set for May 10.

Crucially, the Indian government has confirmed that military assets, including Dornier aircraft and helicopters, will be withdrawn.

In their place, an Indian technician team will be deployed to maintain operational capabilities, ensuring a smooth transition.

While the withdrawal plan had been outlined earlier, the confirmation of a signed agreement marks a significant step in the diplomatic process.

President Muizzu emphasized that the decision to withdraw Indian troops was a sovereign choice made by the Maldivian people, and he expressed confidence that India would respect this democratic decision.

He credited the success of the withdrawal negotiation to the professional approach taken by Maldives, highlighting the importance of maintaining international peace through diplomatic means.
