President Yameen's imprisonment is unacceptable; he has done many services: Nasheed
The speaker for the People's parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, has stated that the imprisonment of the leader of the opposition, Progressive Congress coalition, and their presidential candidate Abdulla Yameen Abdul Qayyoom is unacceptable and that he is a person who has done many services.
He stated this whilst speaking in the ceremony held last night in Ghiyasuddin school to commemorate the occassion of the formation of "The Democrats" party.
Nasheed stated that the opinion polls indicated that the majority of the citizens were undecided about who to vote for.
"President Solih receives 15 percent. I receive 6 percent. President Yameen receives 18 percent. 55 percent of the population is undecided." Nasheed stated.
He highlighted that President Solih is aware that the citizens are undecided whilst he continuously preaches about a second term.
He also further highlighted that President Yameen was receiving 18 percent vote whilst being imprisoned.
"It has never been acceptable for a person to be in jail. President Yameen is a person who, in addition to serving as the president of Maldives, served as a member of the People's Parliament, minister of the state, leadership of Mahchangoalhi and contributed to numerous other services." Nasheed stated.
Whilst ending his speech he called out for Yameen and he, himself, to give up facing for president, and instead work together towards achieving what the citizens of this country are wishing for.
