The ruling party, MDP's Parliamentary Group (PG) has decided to remove the Parliament's Speaker Mohamed Nasheed from his position.

This was revealed in a press conference held by the PG by their leader Mohamed Aslam.

In this conference Aslam stated that they have discussed about submitting a no-confidence motion against Nasheed. And he highlighted that out of the 42 members that participated in the meeting, 36 members had agreed on submitting the motion.

Speaking about the main reasons for the decision, Aslam raised concerns regarding the parliamentary proceedings and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's behavior during sessions. 

And he stated that the decision was made in order to guarantee the efficient functioning of the parliament. 

MDP has 55 lawmakers in the parliament apart from Nasheed. The votes of 43 lawmakers are required to pass a no-confidence motion. Therewith, if MDP desires, they can easily dismiss him from the position.
