Immigration expands passport services to Dharavandhoo
Maldives Immigration has introduced passport services in Dharavandhoo, Baa Atoll, expanding access to travel document services for residents and supporting the government's ongoing efforts to make essential public services more accessible across the country.
With the addition of Dharavandhoo, passport services are now available from two islands within Baa Atoll, providing greater convenience for residents seeking travel documents.
According to Maldives Immigration, applicants can submit passport requests online through the Imuga portal and choose either Eydhafushi or Dharavandhoo as their preferred location for passport collection.
The expansion forms part of a broader government initiative aimed at decentralizing public services and reducing the need for citizens to travel to Malé for essential documentation.
Authorities have been working to extend both passport and national identity card services to islands throughout the atolls, with a goal of ensuring that at least one island in every atoll offers these services.
For many residents outside the capital, obtaining passports and identification documents previously required costly trips to Malé, creating financial and logistical challenges.
Officials believe that making these services available closer to home will ease those burdens, improve accessibility, and enhance the overall efficiency of public service delivery.
The rollout of passport services in Dharavandhoo reflects the government's continued focus on bringing key administrative services closer to communities and strengthening regional access to government facilities nationwide.
