Maldives urges full implementation of UN-backed Gaza roadmap
Maldives has condemned Israel’s rejection of a roadmap aimed at completing the implementation of a plan to end the conflict in Gaza.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government condemned Israel’s opposition to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, stating that such a position undermines international efforts to end the conflict and achieve lasting peace.
The Ministry said the roadmap, endorsed under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, should be fully implemented without further delay.
The Maldives also welcomed the diplomatic efforts of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Türkiye and other international partners that contributed to securing the Palestinian side’s acceptance of the proposed roadmap.
According to the Foreign Ministry, implementing the plan is essential to addressing the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, restoring security and stability, and supporting reconstruction and recovery efforts.
The government said the process should also help establish conditions for a lasting and sustainable peace based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The Maldives further reaffirmed its longstanding support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
The statement reiterated the Maldives' support for a Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
