Maldives Customs Service has intercepted more than 3 kilograms of cannabis that was allegedly being smuggled into the country through the postal service.

According to Customs, the seizure involved 3,207 grams of cannabis discovered during an inspection of a postal package last Saturday.

Officials identified suspicious items within the consignment and carried out a more detailed examination, leading to the discovery of the narcotics.

Customs said it continues to strengthen surveillance and enforcement efforts to prevent the illegal importation of narcotics through postal services and air cargo channels.

The agency has been increasing monitoring operations across different entry points as part of broader efforts to intercept illegal substances before they enter the country.

The latest seizure highlights the continued use of postal and cargo services in attempts to smuggle narcotics into the Maldives, with Customs maintaining enhanced screening measures to detect suspicious consignments.
