Abdul Raheem rejects Nasheed’s claims of discord within PNC
Speaker of Parliament and Chairperson of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has dismissed claims by former President Mohamed Nasheed that the party is facing internal collapse, insisting that the party remains united and firmly supportive of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Abdul Raheem responded through a post on X after Nasheed, speaking during a program on Sangu TV, alleged that the PNC was nearing disintegration and that signs of internal instability would soon become more visible to the public.
According to Abdul Raheem, attempts to create divisions within the ruling party will not succeed.
He stated that the PNC continues to be the largest political party in the Maldives and remains committed to serving the interests of the nation and its people.
The entire party stands firm and united behind President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu,
Abdul Raheem stated.
He further stressed that the party is built on a constructive political vision and remains focused on its responsibilities to the public.
During the television program, Nasheed argued that the PNC was experiencing serious internal challenges and claimed that President Dr Muizzu's popularity had declined.
He also suggested that the President could face pressure during the party’s upcoming congress, alleging that political leaders who lose public support are often removed from party leadership positions in other countries.
Nasheed further claimed that growing dissatisfaction within the party would become increasingly apparent in the near future.
However, PNC leaders have strongly rejected those assertions, maintaining that the party remains stable and cohesive.
Party officials said the organization continues to enjoy strong support among its members and remains united behind President Dr Muizzu’s leadership.
