Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on Sunday declared that there had been no complaints regarding the validity of the party's presidential primary held on Saturday and stated that this was the most successful election thus far.

Speaking at a press conference held at the MDP office on Sunday morning, The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) election committee chair and deputy party chair Ibrahim Waheed (Iburey) said there is no question about the validity of Saturday's primary. He further stated that this was the most successful election thus far in the party's history.

Despite the election's overall success, Waheed claimed that 60 complaints about the primaries so far.  He further explains that the complaints include 50 complaints received through the portal and 10 complaints over the phone.

He pointed out that keeping ballot boxes on all islands and having the results announced and counted on the same day was a first for the party in a presidential primary. He also mentioned that they haven't gotten many substantial complaints about the proceedings.

The complaints we received following such a significant election, both online and through our hotline, are the second reason we are claiming success. Ten phone calls and 50 complaints have been made so far through our official portal.

Said Waheed

Although the MDP committee claimed that the election was a success Nasheed's alleged that fake votes were cast in the boxes. Nasheed also went on to Twitter to claim that he would take action against those who rigged the votes.
