President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Maldives will not permit its territory to be used in any capacity in relation to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

Speaking at a press briefing at the President’s Office, President Dr. Muizzu emphasised that the country’s land, sea and airspace will not be made available for military operations or activities linked to warfare.

Addressing reports of a potential visit by a United States envoy, the President said the Maldives remains open to diplomatic engagement with other countries, but clarified that this position does not extend to Israel.

He noted that while a request for a meeting has been received from the U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, no discussions have yet taken place with the government.

The President added that even if such talks were to occur, the Maldives would maintain a consistent stance of non-involvement in external conflicts.

Reiterating the government’s position, he expressed opposition to the ongoing conflicts and stressed that any actions undermining the sovereignty and independence of nations are unacceptable.

He also called for an immediate end to hostilities.

The President further reaffirmed that Israel is not recognised by the Maldivian government or its people, while condemning the prolonged suffering of Palestinians.
