There is no security threat to Maldives: Defence Minister

Defence Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon has reaffirmed its policy of not allowing any foreign power to use its territory for military purposes, as regional tensions continue in the Middle East and Gulf.

Defence Minister Ghassan made the statement during a press conference held by a Special Cabinet Committee established by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to assess the implications of the ongoing conflict.

He noted that the government is closely monitoring the situation and evaluating any potential risks to the country.

We do not see any military threat to Maldives because of this war at this point in time

Minster Ghassan said

The minister emphasized that, based on current assessments, there is no immediate military threat to the Maldives arising from the conflict.

He also reassured the public that the government remains committed to its decision not to permit any country to use Maldivian territory for war-related purposes.

Authorities continue to monitor developments in the region while maintaining a position focused on national security.
