Maldives strongly condemns the abhorrent act of desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden

The Government of Maldives has strongly condemned the abhorrent act of desecration of the Holiday Quran in Sweden. 

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The government strongly condemned the abhorrent act of desecration carried out by Rasmus Paludan, leader of the far-right political party Stram Kurs on 21 January 2023.

The statement also stated Despite the progress made in building bridges of understanding and social cohesion, such acts of Islamophobia undermine all efforts to uphold the values of tolerance and coexistence, only serving to exacerbate hatred and extremism in our societies.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives - Abdulla Shahid also condemned the following in a tweet. Opposition leadership of PPM and PNC have also condemned the abhorrent act of desecration carried out by Rasmus Paludan. 

Several countries including Pakistan, Turkey and Iran have also condemned the abhorrent act of desecration of the Holy Quran.
