Visa-waiver pact signed between Cambodia and the Maldives
Maldives and Cambodia have reached an agreement on the mutual exception of visa requirements.
The agreement was inked after a formal negotiation between Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and visiting Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday afternoon.
Speaking at a press conference after the meeting between the two leaders, President Solih said that the two countries had signed an agreement that would exclude citizens of both nations from the need for visas for single or repeated entries, exits, or transit for 30 days.
However, Maldivian visitors who stay in Cambodia for more than 30 days or who are there for work, school, or other reasons must apply for a visa.
Prime Minister Hun Sen and President Solih spoke about boosting bilateral ties and the desire of Cambodians to work in the Maldivian tourism industry.
President Solih announced his plan to provide 20 Cambodians internship chances at various Maldivian resorts as part of a program for experience exchange.
Additionally, the Maldives provided two scholarships for Cambodian students to attend the Maldives National University this year, as well as the chance for Cambodian troops to participate in the basic diving course offered by the Maldivian Coast Guard.
The Maldives and Cambodia signed six agreements on Monday, including agreements to expand their collaboration in the areas of tourism, economic development, and health care.
