Maldives condemns Israeli minister's entry into Al-Aqsa Mosque
The Maldives has condemned Isreal's National Security Minister for entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque's inner sanctum.
The Foreign Ministry said it condemns the Israeli National Security Minister's entry into Al-Aqsa Mosque's inner sanctum on the 3rd of this month in violation of international agreements, laws and norms.
The Ministry also stated that the Maldives is participating in the Organisation for Islamic Cooperations (OIC)'s ongoing efforts at the United Nations in this regard. The Ministry further said the emergency meeting of the Security Council was held on January 5th at the initiative of the OIC and members of the UN Security Council. A statement from the OIC was also delivered during the meeting.
A debate on the situation in the Middle East will also be held on January 18th, during which the Maldives is set to participate.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further said that the Maldives has always advocated for the liberation of Palestinian lands occupied by Israel in violation of international law and the protection of the rights of the Palestinian people.
