No garbage from other countries would be imported into the Maldives: Environment Ministry

The Environment Ministry has assured that no garbage will be imported into the Maldives from any foreign countries.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Deputy Minister Of The Ministry Mohamed Ansar said that the Ministry is not in any way in favor of importing foreign waste into the Maldives.

The law already does not permit the import of garbage. The law states that any kind of garbage can be imported into the Maldives with the permission of the ministry. It won't happen in any other way

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has ratified the Waste Management Act which allows the imports of garbage into the Maldives. The Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Ahmed Murtaza also stated the law does not allow such things and that the government will not such things to happen. 

The Ministry further stated the main objective of this law is to address the current waste problem and the law assures that as well.
