Opposition rejects criminal court verdict
The opposition coalition comprising of PPM and PNC has stated that it does not accept the verdict of the Criminal Court Chief Judge Ahmed Shakil towards Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
PNC President Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adre) stated that the verdict against President Yameen was a well-planned one by the Indian government.

The state had sought a minimum sentence of eight years in prison for President Yameen. The state also has sought an 11-year jail term for money laundering. Hence, the state sought a total jail of 19 years.
The court announced the judgement in the case and added that the evidence presented, including the cheques and bank statements, showed that President Yameen had been found guilty of accepting bribes.
However, the judge's ruling did not comment on the defence evidence and evidence submitted to the court on behalf of President Yameen in connection with the money.
