MP Nazim receives MNP’s 2023 Presidential Ticket

The leader of the Maldives National Party (MNP) - Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim of Dhangethi, was given the presidential ticket after no other contenders expressed interest in challenging him for office. 

MNP began accepting applications on December 1st for its primary for the 2023 presidential elections.  According to MNP,  The cutoff time for the application was till Wednesday 2:00 pm.  However, there were no additional applicants for the primary. 

"The party's head Nazim has defended the ticket because no other candidates submitted "applications. To formally give him the ticket, we will organize a ceremony

MNP has recently declared itself as an opposition party to keep the administration responsible and MNP's national executive council determined at its inaugural meeting last month.
