Election Commission: The opposition did not initiate the Yoga Day violence
The Election Commission (EC) has ruled that the ruling opposition party did not initiate the Yoga Day Violence.
There were numerous allegations against the opposition PPM for being involved in the altercations that occurred on June 21, 2017, in connection with the yoga session at the Galore Stadium. However, the opposition has consistently refuted the claims.
Mohammed Ismail, a former PPM member of parliament, was also detained in connection with the altercation. The case was dragged on by both Police and the Election Commission.
The Election Commission had already declared that if the PPM played a role in the yoga controversy, it would take appropriate measures.
However, President of the Election Commission Fuad Thaufeeq on Sunday stated that the party's role in the case has not been established and that the party does not support it despite the presence of senior party leaders in the event.
Allegations against the party, in this case, came to the fore when people who tried to stop yoga took flags to PPM's office.
While performing yoga, a group of people barged in and shouted at the police personnel guarding the place. More than 20 people were also arrested in connection with the case.
