The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has introduced tobacco and smoking cessation services at four major hospitals in the Maldives to support individuals in their efforts to quit smoking.

In a recent announcement, the HPA revealed that these services would be available at designated hospitals with a focus on providing expert guidance and assistance for those seeking to overcome tobacco addiction.

The hospitals offering the services are:

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH):

Contact: 3335336

Hulhumale' Hospital:

Sunday to Thursday, 08:00 AM - 04:00 PM

Dhamana Veshi:

ADK Hospital:

These clinics are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to reduce tobacco use across the country.

The HPA also highlighted that these services, including any necessary medications, are fully covered by the Aasandha health insurance scheme.

Earlier in December, HPA also announced a tobacco quitline 1676 to assist anyone who needs expert guidance and assistance on their journey to quit tobacco.

The initiative is part of the broader push to combat tobacco-related health issues, following recent hikes in cigarette taxes and the ban on the import, sale and distribution of vape in the Maldives.
