President Solih has not fulfilled his promises and is trying to consolidate power: Speaker Nasheed
Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has stated that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is not trying to fulfil his promises, but is trying to consolidate power.
Responding to a question from a member of the public during the sixth episode of the 'Ask Speaker' programme held this afternoon, Nasheed said these five years should be measured before president Solih is given a second term.
I don't think the promises have been fulfilled, the promises are not just about doing things without looking at a small island or a big island, but in this manifesto we have done something very special, which will be done in a certain way at a particular time
Said Nasheed
Nasheed stated that he did not know how to answer the question of whether he would support President Solih in the MDP primary even though the provision of the manifesto was fulfilled.
Replying to another question on giving a ticket to President Solih easily, Nasheed stated he has always tried to do things democratically stating that he is deeply concerned about certain aspects of the functioning of the state.
It's also a matter of power, it's been a struggle to consolidate power, consolidate power, and accumulate
Nasheed said, criticising the president
Nasheed added that after the chairperson's election, he realised he could not operate "in a separate network" within the party.
Before the June election for the chairperson, the two presidents' relationship deteriorated. Imthiyaz Fahmy, a member of North Maafannu, received Nasheed's election support. President Solih's supporter and the current government's economic minister Fayyaz Ismail. Imthiyaz Fahmy, unfortunately, lost the election.
