All council members of Raa Atoll Dhuvaafaru have been suspended by authorities following the investigation into the council corruption case.

The decision to suspend all council members was taken on Sunday by the Local Government Authority (LGA) following the meeting of the LGA members.

Following the suspension, all council members are prohibited from representing the council in any form during their suspension period.

Authorities have now tasked Dhuvaafaru Council Secretary General Mohamed Nasih to oversee the council's operation temporarily.

Dhuvaafaru Council comprises six council members. However, Council member Ahmed Samooh had previously resigned earlier. Therefore by-election for him is set to take place on December 24.

A report was created after an ACC team visited the island to investigate the corruption case.

According to the report, funds from the council budget were improperly transferred to council members, the women's development committee, and other employees' bank accounts. The report also showed that over MVR 2 million was transferred outside the council policy.

Additionally, a large sum of cash has also been distributed among employees without any documentation.

The report further explained the failure of the council to keep proper documentation and failure to keep up the responsibilities of the council.
