Speaker Nasheed expressed grave concern over low parliamentary attendance

Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has expressed concern over lawmakers not being present in parliament despite receiving high salaries.

Only 22 MPs were present when the session began today. Nasheed voiced his disappointment at the sparse representation of lawmakers in the parliament.

According to Nasheed, Every member of parliament receives a high salary and committee allowance more frequently.

Said Nasheed

Nasheed stated it is essential to the function of the Parliament to present the opinions of the members who are present in the House, participate in the debate, and speak as a member deems fit. Nasheed noted that MPs are chosen to represent the people.

Previously, Nasheed has also expressed concern over the Parliament attendance. Parliamentarians had earlier passed legislation creating their terms on salaries.
