Former President Abdulla Yameen declared that the People’s National Front (PNF) will ensure India is held accountable for any interference in the Maldives' military affairs.

Speaking at a PNF meeting last night, Yameen criticized the current government's handling of foreign military presence and reiterated his party's firm stance on maintaining national sovereignty.

President Muizzu recently stated in an Al Jazeera interview that even he is unaware of the exact number of Indian military personnel in the Maldives,It's shameful for the head of state to admit to such a lack of transparency regarding foreign military presence in our country

Yameen said

Yameen emphasized that the PNF's position on foreign military involvement has not wavered.

Every member of the ruling party, including those in government positions today, previously supported the 'India Out' campaign. They wore the same 'India Out' T-shirts that I did,Yet now, the banners have disappeared, and the resolution against the campaign remains unchallenged.

he said

The former president called for greater accountability from the current administration, stressing that the government should be transparent and answerable to the public regarding foreign military presence.

Even if some try to make us forget, we must remember that there is no place for Indian military personnel in the Maldives

Yameen asserted

He further asserted that his party, the People's National Front (PNF), will hold India accountable for any military interference in the Maldives.

He emphasized that he will ensure President Muizzu's government and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) are answerable as well.

We (PNF) will hold india accountable if they interfere with our defense issues. We will also ensure that president Muizzu’s government is held accountable

 stated Yameen

Final batch of Indian military personnel was announced to be withdrawn from the Maldives on May 9.
However, there was lack of  detailed information provided by Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon during a press conference on May 12, where he confirmed the absence of Indian soldiers at the Uthuru Thila Falhu (UTF) but did not specify numbers.

Highlighting the inconsistency in the government's foreign policy,

Yameen questioned why the current administration is defending the resolution passed against the "India Out" campaign during the previous administration.

In closing, Yameen reaffirmed the PNF's commitment to upholding Maldivian sovereignty and holding the government accountable for any foreign military interference.
