Foreign minister embarks on high-level diplomatic mission to the USA
Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has embarked on an official visit to the United States, scheduled from June 24 to June 27.
The visit, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to strengthen the partnership between the Maldives and the US and reaffirm the Maldives' commitment to multilateralism through meetings with senior US government and United Nations officials.
Minister Zameer's visit will begin in Washington D.C., where he is slated to meet with prominent figures, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and USAID Administrator Samantha Power.
These high-level discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and the United States.
In addition to these meetings, Minister Zameer will take part in an interactive discussion at the prestigious Council of Foreign Relations. He will also engage with the Maldivian community in Washington D.C., aiming to foster stronger ties with expatriates.
Following his engagements in Washington D.C., Minister Zameer will travel to New York City.
There, he will meet with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua.
These discussions will focus on strengthening the Maldives' collaboration with the UN on various global and regional issues.
Minister Zameer's itinerary in New York also includes meetings with local tour operators and travel advisors to promote tourism to the Maldives.
Additionally, he will connect with the Maldivian communities in New York and New Jersey to address their concerns and strengthen community relations.
Accompanying Minister Zameer on this official visit are Secretary for Bilateral Affairs Dr. Hala Hameed and Senior Undersecretary Hassan Hussain Shihab.
